Watch a video. There are several online tutorials that will walk you through how to hula hoop with proper form. If your local gym uses hoops, consider taking a class to learn the basics before working out on your own.
Start with shorter workouts. With hula hooping, you are teaching your body how to move the right way with the hoop while working your cardiovascular system at the same time. Aim for two or three 10-minute sessions a day. You can spread them out or work them into a total-body workout. As you get better, you can add time to each workout.
